Delhi Urdu Academy awards 2004
Urdu Academy, Delhi has on the recommendations of its Award and Cultural sub-committee, decided to give awards for best books of the year 2004. These awards are in the category of Rs 5100 each for 9 books and Rs 3500 each for 11 books. Decisions to this effect were taken in the sub-committee meeting of 23 February chaired by Academy’s vice chairman, M. Afzal. Books selected in the first category of Rs 5100 each are Ratan Nath Sarshar (by Prem Pal Ashk), Wazahati Kitabiyat (Prof Muzaffar Hanafi), Sardar Jaffary ki Naadir Tahreer (Dr Mohd Firoz Dehlwi), Ghalib aur Funoon-e Latifa (Zuber Rizvi), Dehli ke Madaaris wa Makaatib (Mohd Akhtar Siddiqi), Bare be Adab Ho (Manzoor Usmani), Tibbi Sahaaef (Hakeem Ashhar Qadeer), Advia Ma’daniya (Dr Mustahsin Abbas Ali), Ababilen Nahin Aayeen (Haneef
Best books selected in the second category of Rs 3500 each are Shaagirdaan-e Daagh ki Adabi Khidmaat (Asghar Kamaal); Maulana Iftekhar Faridi ki Hayaat wa Khidmaat (Masoom Muradabadi); Urdu Reportage (Tal’at Gul); Ufkar wa Nazaryat (Zul Huma), Balaad-e Hind ki Dastaan (Waseem Ahmad Sayeed), Yambarzal (Tarannum Reyaz), Sitara-e Sang (Adil Hayat), Aasmaan dar Aasmaan (Jagdish Prakash), Kashful Alfaaz: Ghazalyat-e Ghalib (IA Wajid), Science Aap ke Liye (Hafiz Abdur Rahman), Talimi Nafsiyat kya hai (Ismat Jahan Siddiqi). According to Academy’s press release, in addition to above books, on the basis of those received from publishers Munshi Nawal Kishor Award for best publisher will be given to Shahid Publications and Aakif Book Depot. They will be given Rs 5100 each in cash. Like every year in the past this year also Urdu Academy medal and certificate will be given to award winners.
ICMR Senior Research Fellowship was awarded to Mohammad

Ahmad, scientist, National Geophysical Research Institute (NGRI), Hyderabad has been awarded the International Prize for Water Science - 2004 at Cannes Water Symposium, Cannes, France. The prize is one of the 9 prizes called "Lights of Water" awarded every year. The prize consists of a trophy and a citation. The award was conferred to Dr. Ahmed for his continued efforts in promoting international collaboration in the field of water sciences. At present he is heading an Indo-French Centre for Groundwater Research (IFCGR) from Indian side. He has recently completed an Indo-French collaborative research project as Indian Principal Collaborator and led a pilot project from UNESCO. He has been supervising the research work of French students also. Dr. Ahmad is also YMS awardee in 1996 and is currently the Vice President of MAAS.The organizers will honour Dr. Ahmad during the 2005 award ceremony at Cannes, France.

Science Aur Kainat Society of India, a national level voluntary organisation working for the popularisation of science and technology for the last 20 years organised a science exhibition, and a number of competitions as quiz, debate, essay writing, painting, flower show and other literary competitions and awarded three persons for their services to science and technology and contribution to education in a function which continued for four days, from February 8 to11 at Dr MA Ansari Auditorium, Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi.
DR M. HAMIDULLAH BHATT, Director, NCPUL, GOI was honoured with Dr Zakir Husain Memorial Award-2005 for his distinguished services in the filed of computer education especially for Urdu knowing people.
DR RN MATHUR, Central Project Advisor, NPIU, Govt. of India, was awarded with Sir CV Raman Memorial Award-2005 for his valuable services to science and technology especially technical education.
DR M ZAKI KIRMANI, Hony Secretary Muslim Association for Advancement of Science, Aligarh was honoured with Sir Syed Memorial Award-2005 for his contribution in the field of social work especially for creating educational awareness among backward minority community. The awards were given away by Salman Khursheed, former minister of state for external affairs and patron of the society. The science exhibition was inaugurated by Dr Shafiqur Rehman Barq, member of Lok Sabha from Moradabad. Prizes were distributed among the winners and certificates given to all the participants. The society organises science exhibition, award ceremony and several such competitions on the occasion of its foundation day and the birth anniversary of former President of India, Dr Zakir Hussain on February 8 and celebrates its foundation day as well as the birth anniversary of the former Indian President.«
