SYED NAZAR BURNEY had died in Mecca wile he was performing Haj. The 63-year-old who worked as Deputy librarian of Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi was known for his writings in Hindi and Urdu.
Mujtaba Hasan Zinjani, former IFS officer, died at his residence in Jamia Nagar on 25 February at the age of 93 years. He also served as private secretary to Hafiz Mohammad Ibrahim when he was a minister in the central government. He retired as joint Chief Controller of Imports and Exports. He was laid to rest at Batla House graveyard.
Maulana Abid Husain Rizvi, a religious scholar died in a Lucknow hospital on 22 February after a brief illness. He was 64 and laid to rest in his ancestral home on 23 February.
Hasanat Siddiqi, former minister, journalist and the Congress general secretary died of heart attack in Bhopal. He was 64 and is survived by widow and one son. On Sunday he was admitted to hospital when he felt pain in the chest where he died two days later on 22 February. Before joining the Congress, he was a member of BJP. Congress and the BJP leaders attended his last rites.
Renowned Urdu critic, research scholar, columnist and humerous writer, Mushfiq Khwaja
died on the night of 21-22 February. He was a heart patient. His kidneys also had failed and their function was limited to 25 percent only. His death has been described as a great loss to Urdu world.

Chaudhari Sibte Mohammad Naqvi died in his home town Akbarpur (UP) on 19 February. He was seriously injured in a road accident a few days back. He recovered from the accident but soon fell ill and died. He is survived by his widow, four sons and five daughters.
Maulana Qari Hashsham, a teacher of Hamdard University, died in Delhi on 22 February. Expressing grief over his death, Jamiatul Ulama president, Maulana As’ad Madni said that he was a scholar of Darul Uloom, Deoband and he had close relationship with Jamiatul Ulama and Darul Uloom. He performed his duties as teacher honestly both at Tibbia College, Qarual Bagh and at Hamdard University.
Maulana Ismail Kataki, famous religious scholar and freedom fighter died in Katak, Orissa on 21 February at the age of 92 years. He was an old student of Darul Uloom, Deoband. President of Jamiatul Ulama-e Hind, Maulana As’ad Madni described his death as personal loss of Jamiatul Ulama as well as of Darul Uloom, Deoband.
Dr Mohammad Imteyaz Ali, a specialist in asthma and other chronic diseases died of heart attack on 15 February in Hyderabad. He was laid to rest in a local graveyard. He leaves behind his widow, two sons and three daughters.
