NCERT to offer peace education
Milli Gazette Online
New Delhi: The National Council for Educational Research and Training (NCERT) plans to provide a course in peace education for teachers this summer as part of its ongoing efforts to review the curriculum for 2006.
The aim of the course is to increase understanding of the teachers of peace-related issues. The six week course will also focus on issues relating to human rights, sustainable development and inter-cultural education.
The Department of Educational Psychology and Foundations of Education (DEPFE), NCERT will conduct the course. Graduate teachers working in schools are eligible to apply for this course.
Out of the 30 seats available for the course, 15 per cent of the seats are reserved for Schedule Castes and 7.5 per cent for Schedule Tribes. Preference will be given to deputed teachers from government schools. The NCERT will bear the expenditure for the course, including lodging for outstation teachers, as per the rules.
