Actress and social worker Shabana AzmI was presented the Award of Excellence at the Reel World Film Festival held recently at Toronto (Canada) in recognition of her contribution to the independent film industry. In the film festival her film Morning Raga was also shown. 

Qazi Abdus Sattar, renowned Urdu novelist and short story writer, has been selected by a panel of judges for this year’s literary award which includes Rs 1.5 lakh in cash and a gold medal. He holds a unique position among contemporary Urdu fiction writers and novelists. So far his 11 novels and two collections of short stories have been published the important ones among them are Dara Shikoh, Ghubar-e Shab and Baadal. Among his short story collections are Peetal ka Ghanta and Razzo Baji. 

Among Pakistani litterateurs, Hajra Masroor has been selected for this year’s award of Rs 1.5 lakh and a gold medal. Both these were selected under Tenth International Majlis for the Promotion of Urdu Literature Award. 

Famous poet Owais Jamali was presented an Award of Honour by UP state Congress president Salman Khurshid at a grand function held at Aligarh under the auspices of Sir Syed Vichar Manch in recognition of his services to Urdu literature. The function was presided over by the Manch president Tariq Gandhi. Speaking on the occasion Salman Khurshid said that Urdu poetry played very important role in the country’s independence movement and now poets should play the same role in removing communalism and that Owais Jamali was doing the job commendably.
