INDIA MUSLIM FORUM
MEMORANDUM TO THE HONOURABLE The President of India,
Through, His Excellency, The Governor of U.P.
6 December, 2001
As the whole secular conscience of the nation is observing today, the ninth anniversary of the tragic incident of the demolition of Babri Masjid , we wish to submit the following points for Your Excellency’s consideration,
That , as at this critical juncture, we, as a nation are passing through one of our most turbulent phases when the scourge of terrorism and allied problems is attempting to convulse the roots of our body politic, we must exercise a deep sense of introspection to analyze the whole issue in totality.
We think, and are sure, that Your Excellency would agree, that the discriminatory application of law by the government machinery is one factor, which, to a considerable extent, may be held responsible for most of the afflictions confronting us today. The constant violations of the most sacred notion of the ‘equality before law’ , in whichever the society it be, breeds discontent amongst the various social segments and which inevitably gives birth to the aggrieved people resorting to extremist measures. The same is perhaps true of us. It is from this perspective that we are observing this day " AS EQUALITY BEFORE LAW DAY"
We, therefore, request Your Excellency to ensure that the law of the land must be uniformly applied to all, whether it be those who sabotaged the whole Constitutional, democratic and Judicial system of the country and created terror on 6th of December,1992 at Ayodhya or those who are otherwise treated as recognized terrorists; whether it be the anti-national activities of the now-banned – SIMI or the fascist outfits like Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal which do not pay the least regard to the judiciary or law and spare no effort in terrorizing minorities, especially Muslims.; whether it be the fodder scam of Laloo Parshad Yadav or the culprits involved in the most heinous tehelka.com
Now when the persons who are accused either in the criminal proceedings emanating from the tragedy of
6 December,1992 at Ayodhya or tehelka.com are holding the reins of power in the country, can the government’s apparent determination to launch a relentless crusade against terrorism carry any weight.
Your Excellency’s
M.K. Sherwani, LL.M.(Alig)
