MANIFESTO OF AWAMY FRONT – AN ALLIANCE OF MOMIN CONFERENCE, INDIAN
MUSLIM POLITICAL CONFERENCE AND ALL INDIA MUSLIM FORUM – RELEASED AT
THE PRESS CONFERENCE HELD IN CHARAN HOTEL ON JANUARY 24, 2002
MANIFESTO
1. ESTABLISHMENT OF A TRUE SECULAR
POLITY IN THE COUNTRY
The Awamy Front is convinced that the whole concept of secularism,
as being practised in the country, is an awful reversal of what the
Indian Constitution and its Founding Fathers had envisaged. The basic
reason lies in the unscrupulous tendencies of almost all political
parties who, just for the sake of grabbing the power, try their level
best to create a threat perception for minorities, especially the
Muslims, and through this instrumentality, succeed in reaping the
electoral dividends. The cumulative effect of this unholy power politics
is that the entire Muslim community stands sandwiched between fascism
and hypocritical secularism - the former terrorizing it( Muslim
community) and the latter offering false promises of security. It is
thus this continuing reprehensible spectrum of Indian politics which has
reduced the second largest community – the Muslims – not only to a
scattered rubble of vote bank but to a most dejected, insecure and
politically enslaved lot in the country’s heterogeneous social
composition. On the contrary, the total absence of a collective
political will in the Muslim community has turned the so-called
secularists into a disparate and mutually-clashing conglomeration,
bereft of any common agenda to contain the rising influence of fascist
forces.
Under these circumstances, the Awamy Front feels that the true
Constitutional notion of secularism will remain a fictitious commonplace
until the Muslim community develops their own distinct voting potential
within the democratic framework of the county and in that capacity
forges alliances with other political parties. It is with this objective
that it has entered into seat adjustments and electoral alliances with a
number of parties and along with them is going to contest the coming
U.P. Assembly elections.
2. AYODHYA IMBROGLIO
The Awamy Front stands for the resolution of Babri Masjid / Ram
Janambhmi tangle through judicial adjudication and brands both those who
demolished the Babri Mosque on December,6,1992 and those who are still
attempting to find the solution of this tangled issue through sabre-rattling
tactics as the real enemies of the country.
4. THE PROPORTIONATE QUOTA OF MUSLIM BACKWARD CASTES WITHIN THE
RESERVATIONS OF MANDAL COMMISSION
The Awamy Front will extend support to any Party in the government
formation which, in principle, recognizes it as a Muslim representative
group and promises to earmark the proportionate quota of 8.5 % for
Muslim backward castes within the stipulated ambit of 27% reservations
provided for in the Mandal Commission.
5. INDO-PAK RELATIONS
The Awamy Front, while expressing its deep concern over the escalating
tension ,accompanied by the threats of nuclear holocaust, between India
and Pakistan, urges both countries to desist from their threatening
postures and come back to the negotiating table to find an amicable and
lasting solution to all their bilateral disputes. The Front also
deprecates the growing hegemony of American imperialism in the
sub-continent for which the perpetually embittered and hostile relations
between these two neighbours which have a common history and cultural
heritage are responsible.
