BABARI MASJID
MOVEMENT COORDINATION COMMITTEE AND
ALL INDIA MUSLIM MAJLIS-E-MUSHAWARAT
Ram Mandir Project Back on NDA Government Agenda
PM Surrenders to Pressure of Sangh Parivar
New Delhi, 29 January, 2002: Shri Syed Shahabuddin, Convener, Babari
Masjid Movement Coordination Committee (BMMCC) and President, All India
Muslim Majlis-e-Mushawarat (AIMMM), has issued the following Statement:
"Instead of prosecuting the VHP leaders who have been challenging
the Constitution, the Legislature, the Judiciary and the Executive,
subverting the Rule of Law and threatening everyday to break the law,
Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee has received them and given them
respectability through face-to-face meeting. The reference of the
VHP’s demand to the Minister of Law is also amazing as the Supreme
Court Judgement is now more than 7 years old and successive Governments,
faced with similar demands from the VHP, had enough time to study all
its implications. But the exercise may either be a face-saving farce or
a preparation for total surrender to forces of subversion. That would
constitute a clear contempt of court and a violation of the oath of
office.
The AIMMM and the BMMCC strongly protest against this appeasement of the
Vishwa Hindu Parishad which will only embolden them to carry on their
agitation and execute their threat of forcing their way into the
acquired area and beginning the construction of the Ram Mandir in
accordance with their illegal site plan on a date of their choice.
The AIMMM and the BMMCC demand to know whether the Central Government
will use all the force at its commend to stop the VHP hordes or follow
the example set by P.V. Narasimha Rao and Kalyan Singh?
The AIMMM and the BMMCC reiterate their demand that the title suit be
heard by an exclusive Bench on a day-to-day basis and that the Central
Government should call the VHP to order and ask them to wait for and
abide by the final judicial verdict.
The AIMMM and the BMMCC remind the Central Government that presently it
has the exclusive, undivided responsibility for defending the acquired
area, including the disputed area, from any invasion and, therefore, it
should in the meantime, bar the entry of VHP leadership and of Karsevaks
into Ayodhya, place the acquired area under the control of the Army and
take over the entire stock of carved pillars etc. in its custody, to
forestall a repeat of the Demolition.
The AIMMM and the BMMCC thank the secular parties for their clear-cut
stand and request them to maintain a vigil and press the Government to
avoid another catastrophe."
