BABARI MASJID MOVEMENT COORDINATION COMMITTEE
AND
ALL INDIA MUSLIM MAJLIS-E-MUSHAWARAT
Verbal Assurances of Central Government Inadequate and Unsatisfactory
Demand Effective Plan of Action and
Propose Parliamentary Mission to Ayodhya
New Delhi, 27 February, 2002: Shri Syed Shahabuddin, President of the All India Muslim Majlis-e-Mushawarat
(AIMMM) and Convener, Babari Masjid Movement Coordination Committee (BMMCC), has issued the following Statement:
"The All India Muslim Majlis-e-Mushawarat (AIMMM) and the Babari Masjid Movement Coordination Committee
(BMMCC) express their deep concern at the deteriorating situation in Ayodhya with the arrival of thousands of Kar sevaks every day and the daily reiteration by the VHP of its resolve to storm the acquired area on 15 March, 2002 and to commence the unlawful construction of the proposed Ram
Mandir.
The AIMMM and the BMMCC appreciate that all political parties in the opposition and even some in the NDA have expressed their apprehension and requested the Government to outline its Plan of Action to defend the Acquired Area against the assault by the
VHP.
The AIMMM and the BMMCC also consider the verbal assurances of the Central Government unsatisfactory and inadequate, wholeheartedly support the request of the political parties and demand: -
a) The Central Government should firmly warn the VHP that it shall use all the force at its command to defend the acquired area and place it under the control of the Army.
b) The Central Government should direct the State Government (i) to declare the congregation of Karsevaks already in Ayodhya as constituting an Unlawful Assembly in view of its declared objective and disperse them out of
Ayodhya; (ii) ban the entry or re-entry of the Karsevaks; (iii) blockade all access routes from Karsevakpuram to the Acquired Area, and (iv) seal all stocks of carved pillars etc. against their use in an unlawful act.
The AIMMM and the BMMCC also request the Parliament to press the Government to take all effective measures to defend the sanctity of the Constitution and to send a Parliamentary Team to Ayodhya to monitor the ground developments."
