Set-up Inquiry by Sitting Judge of Supreme Court,
Pay Full Compensation for Loss of Life and Property
Prosecute Culprits by Special Court and

AIMMM Demands Urgent Action to Restore Normalcy in Gujarat

New Delhi, 7 March, 2002:

The Standing Committee of the All India Muslim Majlis-e-Mushawarat (AIMMM) met at Delhi on 7 March, 2002 to consider the situation arising out of the barbaric genocide of Muslims in Gujarat.

The Committee adopted the following Resolution:

The Standing Committee of the AIMMM strongly condemns the massacre of Muslims and looting of their property in Gujarat with the connivance and collaboration of the State machinery as State Terrorism and feels that a judicial inquiry by a retired judge of the High Court is not adequate to the tragic dimensions of the situation and demands that the Commission of Inquiry should be headed by a sitting Judge of the Supreme Court.

The Committee demands the dismissal of the Chief Minister on grounds of criminal negligence, incitement of violence, loss of political command on the police and paramilitary forces and proven inability to save the life, honour and property of the citizens, promulgation of Presidentís rule, declaration of Gujarat as a Disturbed State and massive deployment of the Army to restore normalcy and rehabilitation the victims in dignity and security.

The Committee also demands removal of the Union Home Minister Shri L.K. Advani as he had failed to monitor the developments and provide paramilitary forces and deploy the Army in time.

The Committee demands a comprehensive survey of the loss of life, limb and property, ex-gratia payment of Rs. 2 lakhs for every life lost and compensation on substitution basis for the properties destroyed or damaged, as well as long-term bank credit on low interest to the entrepreneurs whose establishments and factories have been gutted.

The Committee demands expeditious action on the FIRís filed, detection of culprits name in the FIRís and their detention and prosecution by a Special Court, to be established for the purpose.

Finally, the Committee demands restoration to the Muslim community of all places of religious significance occupied by the Hindu mobs and repair and rebuilding of all Masjids and mazars damaged or destroyed at government cost.
