Prime Minister should Clarify his Stand on VHP’s Demands
Receiver should be Directed Not to Accept any ‘Stones’ from RJN
Blockade all Access Routes to Acquired Area and
Be Prepared to Defend it against any Attempted Trespass
New Delhi, 12 March, 2002: Shri Syed Shahabuddin, Convener, Babari Masjid Movement Coordination Committee
(BMMCC), has issued the following Statement:
"The Babari Masjid Movement Coordination Committee (BMMCC) sees clear sign of growing collusion and collaboration between the
Centre, on one hand, and the RSS/VHP/RJN on the other. The Prime Minister has merely committed itself to accept the Order of the Supreme Court but he has not discharged his constitutional responsibility and taken a clear stand on the unlawful demands of the
VHP/RJN, namely, the immediate surrender of 42 acres of acquired land, permission to start the illegal construction, on an illegal site, in accordance with their illegal site plan, or to place one carved pillar at the Shilanyas site and perform Puja there. This he owes to the country.
The emergency situation arising out of the VHP’s needs to be tackled first. The
VHP/Nyas now plans to take a ‘stone’ to the Receiver and get a receipt from him. The Receiver of the acquired land i.e. the Commissioner of Faizabad must be directed by the Central Government not to accept any pillar or stone from the
RJN, at the site of the proposed Mandir or anywhere in the Acquired Area. He must also be authorized to blockade all access roads from the Karsevakpuram and the Ramsevakpuram to the Acquired Area and to use minimum necessary force to defend it from any attempted trespass.
After the crisis created by the VHP/RJN has passed the Central Government, if interested in an out-of-court settlement, should first ask
VHP/RJN to stop agitation and mobilisation or give ultimatums and deadlines, then formulate a proposal and then hold separate discussions with the concerned parties to determine the level of its acceptability to both sides and then refine it. There will be no point, nor profit, in holding a tripartite meeting at the initial stage."
