MUSLIM MAJLIS-e-MUSHAWARAT
Mushawarat Demands
Recall of Indian Ambassador
Calls upon Govt. of India to Mobilise International Community for
Cease-fire and Withdrawal of Israel from Palestinian Territory
Welcomes Arab Proposal for Political Settlement
New Delhi, 11 April, 2002: Shri Syed Shahabuddin, President of
the All India Muslim Majlis-e-Mushawarat (AIMMM), has issued the
following Statement:
"The AIMMM calls upon the Government of India to recall our
Ambassador from Tel Aviv and, later, severe diplomatic relations with
Israel, if necessary, on account of its continued aggression against the
territory of Palestine and the Palestinian people, the forcible
confinement of President Yasser Arafat to his office in Ramalla,
surrounded by Israeli tanks, and, above all, for its defiance of two
successive Resolutions of the UN Security Council calling for cease fire
and immediate withdrawal of its armed forces at least from the
Palestinian towns and cities.
The AIMMM appreciates the statement of Shri Jaswant Singh, Minister of
External Affairs, in support of the UN stand but it is of the view that
time has come for India to take the initiative to mobilize the
international community, particularly the Non-aligned Movement, for
applying sanctions against Israel and for interposing an International
peace-keeping force between Israel and Palestine, to supervise the
Israeli withdrawal and later to keep an eye on the violation of the
cease-fire by either side. This would set the stage for resumption of
negotiations for a political settlement.
The AIMMM welcomes the offer of the Arab States, as proposed by Saudi
Arabia and endorsed by the Arab League, to recognize Israel and
establish normal relations with it if it withdraws from the Arab
territories occupied by it in 1967, and regards it as a major step
towards peace in the region.
The AIMMM, therefore, requests the Government of India to exert all
possible pressure on Israel on its own and through the international
community, in order to create the necessary conditions for negotiation
between Israel and the Arab States, on the basis of the Arab
proposal."
