Appeal to Muslims for Restraint by Swami Agnivesh and Rev. Thampu Endorsed

Mushawarat Appeals to Muslim to Exercise Fortitude with Faith and thus Defeat Game Plan of the RSS

New Delhi, 26 April, 2002: Shri Syed Shahabuddin, President of the All India Muslim Majlis-e-Mushawarat (AIMMM), has issued the following Statement:

"Today two eminent religious leaders of the country Swami Agnivesh and Rev. Valson Thampu have cautioned the people of the country, and the Muslim community in particular about the sinister Game Plan of the Sangh Parivar which is pushing the Muslims of Gujarat to the wall mercilessly, with the connivance of the State Government and waiting for a violent backlash in order to set into motion an expanding spiral of Hindu-Muslim confrontation, enact more Ahmedabads and thus get closer to their objective of building the Hindu Rashtra on the debris of the secular State. Our friends have said:

"We make bold to appeal to our Muslim brethren in Gujarat and all over the country to meet this crisis with wisdom. There are times for restraint rather than retaliation."

The AIMMM fully and unreservedly endorses their appeal and calls upon the Muslims not to be provoked into violence or take the law in their hands, except for legitimate self-defence, protect the Hindus living in their midst and face this great human tragedy with faith, fortitude and self-help. This is the only way to defeat the Game Plan of the Sangh Parivar."
