MUSLIM MAJLIS-e-MUSHAWARAT
Loss of Censure Motion Expected but Deplorable
TDP & TC should pressurize the Union Government to Impose
President’s Rule
Secular and Democratic Forces must carry on Campaign for Modi’s
Removal as the Condition Precedent for Normalcy
New Delhi, 1 May, 2002: Shri Syed Shahabuddin, President of
the All India Muslim Majlis-e-Mushawarat (AIMMM), has issued the
following Statement:
"The All India Muslim Majlis-e-Mushawarat deplores the loss of the
censure motion on Gujarat in the Lok Sabha but notes the fact that most
of the parties - members of the National Democratic Alliance -
categorically condemned the genocide in Gujarat and held the Chief
Minister Narendra Modi and his administration responsible for the
brutality and the suffering, for the loss of life, honour and property
of the target community. But though the censure motion could not have
led to the fall of the Union Government, yet because the BJP had made it
a prestige issue, NDA partners did not vote for it.
The AIMMM is unable, however, to comprehend the immoral and illogical
behaviour of the TDP and the TC which are not represented in the
Government and yet failed to stand up and be counted in the hour of
reckoning. Whatever their motivation, the AIMMM urges them to exert
pressure within the Alliance for the imposition of the President’s
Rule, the removal of the Governor (who is also a Pracharak like Modi)
and for their replacement by a team which would restore the confidence
of the target community, give due priority to implementation of the
relief and rehabilitation package and the prosecution of the identified
culprits.
However, the AIMMM takes this opportunity to felicitate Shri Ram Vilas
Paswan and Janab Omar Abdullah for resigning from the Union Council of
Ministers on the eve of the vote.
The AIMMM reiterates its view that under Modi, fear and suspicion will
continue to persist in Gujarat and there shall be no progress in
rehabilitation. There shall be no return to normal life unless there is
a change of guard. The AIMMM, therefore, calls upon the democratic and
secular forces to launch a united and countrywide campaign against the
Modi Government."
