CIM Deplores Attack on Hindu Temple
London, 24 September, 2002:
Council of Indian Muslims – UK (CIM) has strongly condemned the attack
on Swaminarayan Temple in Gandhinagar, India, in which a number of
people are reported dead.
“This is sheer madness and stern action must be taken against the
perpetrators of this dastardly act” CIM’s Chairman Mr Munaf Zeena
said in a statement issued today.
“We urge the Indian Government to launch an enquiry by the CBI into
the attack and make sure that the fascist government of Gujarat led by
Narendra Modi does not start looking for scapegoats” Mr Zeena said.
Mr Zeena also demanded the dismissal of Narendra Modi and imposition of
Presidential rule forthwith in Gujarat.
“As a matter of fact if honest and impartial investigations are made
we would not be surprised if the BJP/VHP leadership is found guilty of
organizing this attack on a Temple. One finds it beyond comprehension
why anyone would target the Swaminarayan Temple dominated by the Patel
community which has distanced itself from BJP politics. What does one
make of the news, released by the Press Trust of India, that three BJP
leaders have been arrested for occupying firearms at Sarsa village in
Gujarat.” Mr Zeena added.
Mr Zeena also said that “communal tension and religious hatred suits
the BJP/VHP leadership and such incidents go well with their fascist
agenda”.
