CIM Deplore Attack on Temple in Bangladesh
London, 7 October, 2002:
Council of Indian Muslims - (UK) has strongly deplored the attack on a
Hindu temple and vandalism of idols in Bangladesh on Saturday.
"Attacks on places of religious worship of other faiths and hurting
the feelings of religious minorities in a Muslim country is blatant
disregard to the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) who
clearly warned the Muslims by saying 'Any one who harasses dhimmies [non-muslims]
has harassed me.'" CIM's chairman Munaf Zeena said in a statement
today.
Quoting another saying of the Prophet (peace be upon him) that "If
anyone harasses non-Muslims, on the day of judgement I will plead for
these non-Muslims before Allah". Mr Zeena said "It is the duty
of Bangladeshi Government and its clergies to educate their Islamic duties
towards non-Muslim citizens."
"We expect Muslim countries to set a better example in their
treatment of minorities." Zeena added.
He also said "Muslim rule in India spans 1000 years and if Muslims
had adopted such bigoted approach not a single temple would have survived
in the Indian sub-continent in those days when there was no UN to check
their actions and no media to report their misdeeds."
"If the Muslims in Muslim countries treat their non-Muslim fellows
like this then we see no difference between them and the Sangh Parivar and
will be ashamed of calling such people as our brethren in faith". He
further said.
