AIMMM Letter to the Ambassador to USA in New Delhi

Excellency,
Mr. Jerry Falwell's apology for his TV statements against the Holy Prophet and Islam has served to calm the waves of protest all over the world.

Unfortunately the others like Pat Robertson and Franklin Graham remain unrepentant. It appears, however, that the Global Campaign against Terrorism appears to have given rise to a tide of anti-Islamic rhetoric which is not doing the USA nor Campaign any good. Islamophobia appears to be deep seated in a section of the people of the United States. No short term remedy is available but public expressions which cause anger and resentment can be and must be stopped.

Several Muslim organizations in the USA have jointly requested President George W. Bush for a clear and unambiguous statement against this campaign of hate and slander which hurts not only the American citizens who profess Islam but over a billion Muslims all over the world and besmirches the image of your great country.

The All India Muslim Majlis-e-Mushawarat supports their modest request and adds its own plea for a forthright condemnation at the highest level because the moral authority of the President of the United States alone can undo the damage done to the USA's image in the Muslim world but consolidate emotional integration among all the religious groups living within the country.
