Suspend Officials and Policemen who Watched Jhajjar Atrocity and Prosecute Those Involved in Collecting Mob and Killing
AIMMM Demands Judicial Inquiry and Ex-Gratia Payment

New Delhi, 17 October, 2002
: Shri Syed Shahabuddin, President of the All India Muslim Majlis-e-Mushawarat (AIMMM), has issued the following Statement:

"The All India Muslim Majlis-e-Mushawarat (AIMMM) strongly protests against the killing of 5 innocent Dalit youth in Dulena, Jhajjar (Haryana) on 16 October, 2002 by a mob reportedly incited by the VHP and the Shiv Sena and some Hindu priests.

What is most reprehensible is the fact that the killing and burning took place near the police post and the police did not intervene nor even defend them after they had taken refuge in the post. Secondly the brutal killing was watched by the City Magistrate, the DSP and the BDO, apart from the policemen.

On behalf of the Muslim community, the AIMMM offers its sympathy to the families of those killed as well as shares the grief of the Dalit community, which continues to be subjected to brutal atrocities all over the country.

The AIMMM demands that the Government of Haryana should make ex-gratia payment to the next-of-kin of the killed Dalits, suspend all local officials and the entire police force present on the spot, as well as arrest and prosecute all those identified for inciting, organising the mob and killing and order an inquiry by a sitting Judge of the High Court."
