Condemnation of Communal Violence In
Jammu
Muslims Resolve to Offer Resistance
New Delhi, 29 November, 2002:
We view with concern and anguish the pervasive atmosphere of hate, revenge and violence in the Indo-Pak Subcontinent, and appeal to all to engage in a peaceful struggle to reverse the trend.
In this regard we deplore and condemn the barbaric attack against temples in Jammu.
The recent attack is one in the chain of events in Jammu, where the vulnerable sections of the Hindu community, including women, children, migrant labourers, worshippers and pilgrims have been targeted only because they happen to be Hindus who are a minority in the State, ostensibly by those who consider themselves champions of Muslims and Islam.
We consider such heinous acts as not only gross violations of human rights, but absolutely against the basic teachings of Islam, which upholds the sanctity of human life and places of worships in all circumstances, including armed hostilities.
While sending our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families in Jammu, we would like to assure them that we stand by them in their hour of grief and trial.
We would like to impress upon the terrorist groups and their supporters that their barbaric deeds have done immense harm to Islam and Muslims. We have, therefore, resolved to take out a peace march and sit on dharna in the city of Jammu, with a view to impressing upon the people, especially Muslims of Jammu, to organize peaceful resistance against the vicious and insane violence.
