Council of Indian Muslims (UK)

CIM calls upon British Government to ban British branch of RSS

London, 13 December, 2002: Council of Indian Muslims – UK (CM) has called upon British Government to ban HSS, British branch of the fascist Hindu organisation RSS of India.

Commenting on Channel 4’s report that revealed that the HSS and Seva International raised funds in Britain for anti-minorities programmes and pogroms in India, CIM’s Chairman Mr Munaf Zeena said, “We have long been asking the Home Office to ban the activities of this organisation in the UK but perhaps our cause for concern was not taken serious enough.”

“We sent 300 page dossier to the Home Office and the Charity Commission with clear proof that the VHP and its subordinate bodies in the UK had links with the VHP in India and were working for the same fascist mission. While the matter is under serious investigation by the Charity Commission, unfortunately we have received disappointing answer from the Home office that these organisations could not be banned. We hope that Channer4’s report would provide an added impetus to what we have been saying.” He said.

The report shown on 12 December during Channel 4 News programme gave compelling and eye-opening links of how the HSS was organising its activities in the UK and how they were being funded by four local authorities in London.

Mr Zeena also said, “Reports after reports are proving that the Sangh Parivar is not merely a Hindu-Muslim problem it is a menace affecting every one who does not agree with their fascist ideology, regardless of their religion”.

“It is the duty of each and every fair-minded person to stand against these fascists elements and do their best to thwart their plans to disrupt the peace of the society in the UK and elsewhere”. He added.
