IMC is greatly saddened by the demise of Professor Hamidullah

New York, 19 December, 2002: Indian Muslim Council-USA is greatly saddened by the demise of Professor Hamidullah, one of the greatest scholars of Islam. Professor Hamidullah, who was 95 and had rendered invaluable service to Islam, was born in the princely state of Hyderabad. After its annexation by India, he settled down in France.

He was a great scholar, a prolific writer and an original thinker. He wrote the first French commentary of the holy Qur`an. He was also a very humble human being. His health was deteriorating and he had been living quietly with his grand niece for the last few years in Jacksonville, Florida, where he passed away in his sleep on December 17th.

To Allah we belong and to Allah we shall return. We pray for the departed soul that may Allah accept his great services and give strength to his family and the ummah to bear the burden of his passing away
