Council of Indian Muslims (UK)

CIM Welcomes Dual Nationality for Indians

London, 10 January, 2003: Council of Indian Muslims – UK (CIM) has welcomed the announcement by Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee allowing dual nationality to the People of Indian Origin.

In a statement issued today CIM’s Chairman Mr Munaf Zeena said “We welcome this announcement which was being eagerly awaited for years”.

“The British Indian Muslim community wishes India to progress, prosper and succeed in today’s modern world and will want to participate in its future development. But the Indian government will need to restore the confidence, shaken repeatedly by intermittent occurrence of riots and disturbances, of foreign investors” He added.

“In today’s world when free movement and migration has become norm of the day and large number of Indians, who have genuine interest and the means to actively participate in the development and progress of their mother land, have settled in other countries, there was no reason why they should have been deprived of the opportunity to serve and help their country.”

Munaf Zeena urged the Indian Government to consider setting up of a special department to liaise, help, advise and support all NRI’s, wishing to invest in India.
