Venkaiah Naidu's Suggestion can be Implemented only after Title Suit is Decided
Negotiations stand deadlocked; legislation is Constitutionally Impossible
Only Solution: Expedite Title Suit and then Implement Supreme Court Plan of October, 1994
New Delhi, 29 May, 2003: Shri Syed Shahabuddin, President of the All India Muslim Majlis-e-Mushawarat (AIMMM), has issued the following Statement:
"The suggestion by Shri Venkaiah Naidu, President of the BJP, to construct a Masjid next to the proposed Ram Janambhoomi Mandir, is nothing more than yet another manoeuver to persuade the Muslim community to surrender the Babari Masjid site and to shift the Masjid. The Muslims can do no better than to reiterate their commitment to accept the final judicial verdict on the question of title to the Babari Masjid site. On the other hand, the BJP-led Government has of late completely identified itself with the stand of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad and the Ram Janambhoomi Nyas both in the Supreme Court and before the Ayodhya Commission of Inquiry. The Prime Minister has even appointed a leading light of the VHP as a Minister of State in the Ministry of Home Affairs. Shri Vinay Katiyar, the founder of the Bajrang Dal and now the President of the UP BJP, is going round UP to reignite political landscape. He is threatening to excavate
5000 Masjids, claimed by the Sangh Parivar, including the Jama Masjid, Delhi! All these developments make a mockery of Shri Venkaiah Naidu's suggestion.
The AIMMM is of the considered view that no solution can be reached through negotiations because of the deadlock on the inclusion of the Babari Masjid site in the Mandir plan and that legislation will face an insurmountable constitutional bar. So the only alternative is the Special Bench to expedite its hearing of the title suit and for the Government to reaffirm its duty to abide by the judicial verdict and to implement the plan of creating a Mandir-Masjid complex in the acquired area, as outlined by the Supreme Court in its judgement of October, 1994. Now that the Special Bench is hearing the case on a day-to-day basis, why shouldn't the BJP leave it to the Court?
