MAJLIS-e-MUSHAWARAT
Pakistani Leader Fazlur Rahman’s Visit Has made a Positive Impact
His Fraternization with RSS and VHP has Puzzled and
Agonized Secular Forces and Muslim Community
New Delhi, 25 July, 2003: Shri Syed Shahabuddin, President of the All India Muslim Majlis-e-Mushawarat (AIMMM), has issued the following Statement:
"Maulana Fazlur Rahman, President the Jamiat-ul-Ulema-I-Islami, Pakistan, and Leader of the Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal in the Pakistan National Assembly has returned to his country after a week-long goodwill visit to our country. The AIMMM is of the view that the visit has, on the whole, made a positive impact on the public opinion in the country. His message of peace and friendship and good neighbourly relations has left a good impression and found an echo in many hearts, at all levels. His plea for an expeditious settlement of the Kashmir dispute and, particularly, for an end to militancy and violence has found ready acceptance. This is because people of both countries love peace and friendship and would welcome normalization of bilateral relations and resumption of bilateral communication and contacts in every sphere of life.
However, his fraternization with the leaders of the RSS and the Vishwa Hindu Parishad has left a big question mark in the minds of the secular forces, particularly the Muslim Indians. They feel puzzled and agonized at the bonhomie between the visiting Maulana and the ideologues of hatred and violence, the purveyors of vilification and cultural assimilation, whose objective is to transform the Secular State into a Hindu State and establish Hindu Raj.
Through such ill-advised interaction the Maulana has accorded respectability and added to the credibility of the forces which are patently anti-Muslim and have been responsible for the demolition of the Babari Masjid, for the genocidal massacre of Muslims in Gujarat and for poisoning the national environment through systematic defamation of the Muslim community and its religious institutions and persistent campaign against the secular order. The Maulana’s gesture has strengthened them in their war on Secularism and in their propaganda against Islam and the Muslim Indians. Many intellectuals think that perhaps Pakistan would like India to be a Hindu State, based on the ideology of Hindu Nationalism.
The AIMMM does not accept Pakistan or its leaders as the guardians or advocates of the Muslim Indians but it would like to think that the honour and dignity of Islam and the Muslim Indians do occasionally blip on their mental radar."
