OIC Invitation to PUTIN, A Slap in the Face of Valiant Chechens
OIC Should Introduce Observer Status and Associate all States with Substantial Muslim Minorities as Observer
New Delhi, 23 October, 2003: Shri Syed Shahabuddin, President of the All India Muslim Majlis-e-Mushawarat (AIMMM), has issued the following Statement:
"The All India Muslim Majlis-e-Mushawarat (AIMMM) expresses its deep regret at the invitation extended by the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) to President Putin of the Russian Federation to address its Summit in Kuala Lumpur.
The AIMMM takes it as a slap on the face of the valiant Chechens who have been engaged in an unequal struggle against Russian occupation for the last two centuries, in a territory which has today the highest per capita concentration of occupation forces and who have refused to legitimize a Russian puppet as the President in an election held under the shadow of Russian bayonets.
The AIMMM finds it difficult to understand why Russia with 20 million Muslim has been invited to the OIC Summit and India with 150 million Muslims has been treated as a pariah. Perhaps exclusion of India is to please Pakistan. But why should the OIC ignore the fact that inclusion of Russia will provide a fig leaf for the continuance of massive and barbaric violation of human rights of the Chechen people by the Russian occupation forces.
The AIMMM respectfully recommends that the OIC should amend its Charter to permit the association of all States with substantial Muslim minorities, say, 5 million, as Observers, if any such State so desires.
The AIMMM also requests the OIC that the Member States should establish an International Fund for the Educational Development and Socio-Economic Welfare of Muslim minorities."
