AIMMM Deplores Sikh-Muslim Clash in Hyderabad
Requests Prosecution of Culprits, Inquiry in Role of Police and Ex-gratia Payment to the Victims

New Delhi, 6 December, 2003: Shri Syed Shahabuddin, President of the All India Muslim Majlis-e-Mushawarat (AIMMM), has issued the following Statement:

"The All India Muslim Majlis-e-Mushawarat (AIMMM) deplores the unfortunate clash between the Sikhs and the Muslims in the old city of Hyderabad on 4 December, 2003 and appreciate the endeavour of the local leadership of the two communities to contain it and thus to restore normal relations between them.
The AIMMM calls upon the State Government to identify, apprehend and prosecute with utmost speed the culprits who desecrated the religious flag of the Sikh community as well as the youth who took the law in their own hands.
The AIMMM also requests the State Government to hold a magisterial inquiry into the role of the police as a mute spectator.
The AIMMM also requests the State Government to make ex-gratia payment for loss of life to the next-of-kin of the person killed and also to the others for loss of limb and property."
