MAJLIS-e-MUSHAWARAT
AIMMM Deplores Secret Meeting of
Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind with Sangh Parivar
JUH Not Competent to Negotiate Deal on Babari Masjid Question
Such Cohabitation Destroys its Credibility and Helps Sangh Parivar
New Delhi, 26 December, 2003: Shri Syed Shahabuddin, President of the All India Muslim Majlis-e-Mushawarat (AIMMM), has issued the following Statement:
"The All India Muslim Majlis-e-Mushawarat (AIMMM) deplores the reported secret meeting of the General Secretary of the Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind (JUH) with the Sarsanghchalak of the RSS and the President of the VHP. Irrespective of what transpired, the very fact that the meeting took place brings dishonour to the JUH and serves the purposes of the Sangh Parivar as such interaction helps it to spread its net among the fencesitters.
The AIMMM does not see any logic in the JUH’s claim of ‘promoting’ communal harmony. Communal harmony cannot be promoted through talks with elements which are ideologically committed to assimilate religious minorities and destroy the secular order.
The AIMMM also reminds the JUH of its glorious past. Before and after Independence its leadership never had any truck with the communal forces. It refused to fraternize even with the A.I. Muslim League after it adopted Partition as its political goal. After independence, the JUH has been a consistent and strong bulwark of support to secular forces against Hindu communalism.
The AIMMM places on record that on the Babari Masjid Question, the only Muslim organization competent to negotiate an out-of-court settlement is the All India Muslim Personal Law Board with which the JUH leadership is associated. Its president Maulana Asad Madani is a founder member of the Board and a member of its Working Committee. The Board is prepared to negotiate with the Union Government but not with the Sangh Parivar. It is not understood how and why the JUH has broken ranks with the Board.
The AIMMM cautions the JUH that its cohabitation with the peddlers of vilification and demonisation, hatred and violence shall destroy its credibility with the Muslim masses as well as with the secular forces."
