TAMILNADU MUSLIM MUNNETRA KAZHAGAM
December 6 Babri Masjid Demolition Day: Join Tamilnadu Muslims' demonstration near parliament
New Delhi, 5 December, 2004:
TamilNadu Muslim Munnetra
Kazhagam (TMMK) is a mass based organization of the Muslims of TamilNadu
which is working for the welfare of all section of Muslims and other
persecuted masses. It has been striving for the establishment of Minority
Rights in the state of TamilNadu since 1995.
TamilNadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhagam has tirelessly worked for the civil and
political rights of Muslims and other persecuted people of TamilNadu by
adopting peaceful form of agitations like dharna, procession,
demonstration, public meetings, picketing etc., These peaceful agitational
methods have helped to solve many a problem facing the Minority community
in TamilNadu. Though TamilNadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhagam is not a political
party contesting elections, it has through its large network, educated the
people to vote for parties which are friendly towards the interests of the
Muslims. Through its large following TMMK has become a powerful force to
reckon with in the political arena of TamilNadu. TMMK units are spread in
the nooks and corner of TamilNadu. The units of TMMK also render social
services like blood donation, free medical camps, educational guidance,
civic services in the localities etc., Several units of TMMK have won
awards from the State Government for their various social services. TMMK
has through its peaceful but forceful actions won the support and sympathy
of several non Muslim communities and organizations in the state of
TamilNadu. TMMK is also a recognised Human Rights organization and its
President Prof. M.H. Jawahirullah was invited to address the IX Session of
the United Nations Human Rights Commission’s Working Group on Minorities
held at Geneva in May 2003, where he highlighted the Babri Masjid issue,
Gujarat genocide and other issues confronting the minorities of India. .
Ever since its inception in August 1995, TamilNadu Muslim Munnetra
Kazhagam has organized every year, peaceful protest programmes on 6th
December, the day of demolition of Babri Masjid demanding justice for the
Muslim Community. Even on occasions when the protest programmes has been
banned, TMMK has successfully organized agitation, defying the ban and
sometime courting arrest. TMMK believes that the demolition of Babri
Masjid defying the rule of law is the most heinous crime committed in the
history of our country. It is a crime which cannot be forgotten and which
should not recur in the future. Until justice is rendered, it is the duty
of every justice loving Indian citizen to remind the fellow country men
that the only justice available in the Babri Masjid issue is the
reconstruction of the Masjid at the very spot where it stood for more than
450 years. This is the reason why every year on the day of demolition TMMK
has organized peaceful agitation to prick the nation’s conscience.
This year the State Executive Council of TMMK has decided to organize a
symbolic demonstration in front of Parliament on 6th December
to put forth the following demands:
1. December 6, 2004 marks the 12th Anniversary of the
demolition of Babri Masjid. On the ill fated day of demolition, Mr. P.V.
Narasimha Rao the then Prime Minister addressing the nation through
Doordarshan promised the nation that the demolished Masjid will be rebuilt
on the site where it stood. However the Nation is still waiting for the
fulfillment of the promise given by the then Prime Minister. TMMK is
holding the demonstration in near Parliament only to remind the present
Central Government led by a Congress Prime Minister to fulfill the promise
given on December 6, 1992, by the then P. V. Narasimha Rao led Congress
Government. The majority of the parties now forming the constituents of
the United Progressive Alliance have in the past stalled the Parliament
proceedings on December 6th demanding justice for the Muslim
community. TMMK is holding the protest programme only to remind these
parties to render justice when they are now in power.
2. This demonstration is also to appeal to the central government
to expedite the legal process so as to bring to justice, Mr L.K. Advani
and others who have been charge sheeted by the CBI in the Babri Masjid
demolition case.
3.
This demonstration is also for demanding the immediate release of the
report of the Liberahan Commission which has been enquiring the Babri
Masjid demolition case for more than a decade.
TMMK is also holding
picketing programme in front of central government offices in the
district headquarters in TamilNadu on the same day. However it has been
decided that a token strength of TMMK volunteers on their own will be
traveling from the southernmost state of India to the Nation’s Capital
to participate in the demonstration near Parliament. TMMK volunteers are
coming to Delhi only to render their duty to get justice for Babri Masjid,
a place of worship dedicated to the Almighty. They are coming only to wake
the conscience of justice loving fellow citizens across the country. We
appeal to you to join us in this peaceful agitation and make it a grand
success which should ultimately lead to the restoration of Babri Masjid in
its original location as well help us to win the reward of the Almighty.
