London, 15 July, 2004:
"We cannot expect any better action from a terrorist organisation like the Laskar-e-Tayyaba (LT) than to defame Islam and create problems for Indian Muslims". Munaf Zeena, Chairman of the Council of Indian Muslims — UK (CIM) said in his instant reaction at LT’s confession that Ishrat Jahan, who was killed along with other three of her accomplices in Ahmedabad in the western Indian state of Gujarat, was its member.
"If General Musharraf is serious about good neighbourly relations with India and if he was honest in his advice that he gave to Pakistani politicians few years ago to refrain from making statements which might create problems for Indian Muslims, then we urge him to take notice of the outrageous activities of this evil outfit and take stern action against it". Zeena added.
"We fail to understand who on earth is the LT is serving. At a time when Modi was in trouble they sent their mercenaries to assassinate him. And on the same day when Indian Railways Minister Laloo Parshad Yadav ordered the inquiry into Godhra carnage, they issued the statement that Ishrat Jahan was their member. We urge a joint probe by the Indian and Pakistani agencies on the whole story. Truth — that has become the casualty of war on terror — is the only weapon that can crush terrorist organisations. We also urge Pakistani government to come clean and ban the activities of the LT and request our Kashmiri brothers to realise the evil nature and dubious role of organisations like the LT." Zeena further said.
