Circumstances of Killing of Alleged Terrorists Raise Doubts
Need to Set Suspicion of False Encounter at Rest
AIMMM Demands Investigation by CBI
New Delhi, 16 June, 2004: Shri Syed Shahabuddin, President of the All India Muslim Majlis-e-Mushawarat (AIMMM), has issued the following Statement:
“The killing by Gujarat Police on 15 June, 2004 of 4 alleged LeT terrorists on a mission to assassinate Chief Minister Narendra Modi comes at a time very convenient to him because Shri Modi is facing a serious political crisis and needs all the sympathy he can muster.
The whole country is aware how the Gujarat Police performed its duties during the Gujarat Massacre and how it crawled before its political masters. Therefore, few people have any faith in the professional integrity of the Gujarat police. Moreover, so far the Gujarat police has shown a poor record in investigating terrorist cases and the circumstances of this encounter are not very clear and gives rise to the suspicion that the police staged a false encounter.
The All India Muslim Majlis-e-Mushawarat (AIMMM), therefore, calls upon the Union Government to offer the services of the CBI to investigate the case and demands that the State Government immediately make a formal request in this regard.”
