Najma Heptullah joining BJP is a betrayal of trust
New Delhi, 14 June, 2004: Najma Heptullah, Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, joining BJP will always be seen as a betrayal of trust and as a classic case of political opportunism. The overwhelming public opinion in the country suggests that Najma did the political volte-face for being in the Rajya Sabha for the fifth time!
Many of her erstwhile colleagues feel extremely dismayed that she had betrayed the party (Congress), which not only gave her the longest tenure in the Rajya Sabha (4 terms, spanning 24 years), but also gave her opportunity for a role at the international level, particularly at Inter-Parliamentary Union.
Najma Heptullah's joining BJP has particularly troubled members of her community, who felt further bewildered, the other day (soon after she obtained membership of BJP) on her refusal before TV channels, to comment on Gujarat.
Najmaji forgot that Gujarat massacres and Nerendra Modi's role were condemned by a vast majority of Indians, irrespective of caste, colour and creed and she also ignored the fact that Gujarat was undoubtedly the chief factor responsible for decimation of BJP during the recent elections to the 14th LoK Sabha.
Najma joining BJP has yielded just one advantage to the society - She has been seen in her true colours!
