Reception for the newly elected Muslim Members of Parliament

New Delhi, 11 June, 2004
: A grand reception for the newly elected Muslim Members of Parliament was organized last night at Constitution Club by Muslim Political Council of India. It was attended by Mr Md Tahir, Mr Iliyas Azmi, Mr Anwar Hussain and Mr Iqbal Ahmed Sardagi all MPs and MLA Mr Shoaib Iqbal. The luminaries from political parties, social organizations, Ulema, representatives of national Muslim organisatios and journalist including Mr Qasim Rasool Iliyas, editor Ifkar-e-Milli, Dr Zafarul Islam editor Milli Gazette, Mr Shafi Monis (Jamat-e-Islami), Mr Hasan Ahmed Chairman DSIDC, Maulana Zeeshan Hidayati Shia Cleric etc glorified the ceremony by their presence. The programme was chaired by the president of MPCI, Dr Tasleem Rehmani and conducted by renowned Urdu poet Majid Deobandi.

Addressing the occasion Dr Tasleem Rehmani said that it was possible only by the grace of Almighty that the fascist force of NSA was crushed and buried in the recent Lok Sabha election through intelligent and tactical voting by minorities, oppressed class, farmers and deprived class. He urged all the Muslim parliamentarians to make a joint and collective effort for the betterment of minorities and deprived people. He suggested Muslim parliamentarians to sit together cut across party lines at least a month to take stock of Muslims situations in the country. He offered the services of the organization to make it possible. Dr Rehmani also presented a brief history of MPCI and its effort to make tactical voiting possible that ultimately trounced NDA Govt. in the recently concluded election. Mr Md. Tahir MP assured that he will work unitedly for the betterment of community. Mr Iliyas Azmi MP warned the Muslims not to over react under any circumstances and to work cohesively to attain the goal of achieving politicaal share. Mr Shoaib Iqbal MLA pointed the central government that it should not forget that Muslim community has voted it effectively to power and also abide by its promises made to Muslims. MP from Assam Mr. Anwar Hussain assured of his all effort to solve the problems of the community. MP from Gulbarga Mr Iqbal Sardagi asked the MPCI to make a program listing problems faced by Muslims and steps that should be taken to solve them by MPs. He declared that all Muslim MPs will follow this program and will do their best for Muslim cause. He assured the gathering that he is ready to resign even, if the organizations like MPCI orders them to resign.

The ceremony was also addressed by MPCI National General Secretary, Mr Pervez Aftab, National Secretary Mr Aamir Rashadi, Mr Javed Habib, Mr Qasim Rasool Iliyas, Mr Saeed Ahmed. The program was followed by dinner.
