General Election Results Mean Rebirth of the Republic with Restoration of Democracy, Secularism and Rule of Law
Offers Felicitations to the Indian National Congress, the Other Associated Secular Parties and to the People of India
New Delhi, 13 May, 2004: Shri Syed Shahabuddin, President of the All India Muslim Majlis-e-Mushawarat (AIMMM), has issued the following Statement:
"The All India Muslim Majlis-e-Mushawarat (AIMMM) expresses its deep happiness and satisfaction at the victory of the secular forces in the General Election, 2004, led by the Indian National Congress and its President Sonia Gandhi, and offers its sincere felicitations to the national leadership of the Congress, the other supporting parties and to the people, in general.
The AIMMM considers that this historic election will not only restore the Indian National Congress to power and provide a people-oriented Government but help heal the wounds deliberately inflicted on the body politic by the NDA Government, in pursuance of its ideological mission and under the guidance of the RSS. It hopes that the new Government shall restore the sanctity of the Constitution and the national institutions, reunite our divided people, give them all a sense of physical, religious and economic security and, above all, create a regime of social justice and promote the progress and welfare of all sections of our people.
The AIMMM celebrates this event as the rebirth of the Republic on liberation from communal forces and looks forward to the complete restoration of Democracy, Secularism and Rule of Law under the new Government."
