British Indian Muslims Celebrate BJP’s Defeat

London, 13 May, 2004:
The Chairman of Council of Indian Muslims – UK (CIM) has described the
defeat of BJP as a victory of humanity in India.
In a statement CIM’s
patron Lord Adam Patel said, “My commiseration to the BJP but I am
absolutely delighted and overwhelmed at the victory of the Congress. The
Indian public has rejected BJP’s sectarian politics and its propaganda
against Mrs Sonia Gandhi and her foreign origin. I am one of those who
have been saying that by marrying an Indian, accepting Indian nationality
, culture and values Mrs Gandhi had become an Indian years ago and she is
as much Indian as Atal Bihari Vajpayee. I congratulate her on this victory
and pray for India’s prosperity under her leadership.”
CIM’s Chairman Mr Munaf
Zeena said, “By showing the fascists the way out, Indian masses have
displayed maturity and their belief in a secular system and peaceful co-existence
of all the communities in India.
“The defeat of the BJP
is the defeat of fascism, philosophy of hatred and un-principled party
politics. We hope this will be a lesson for all those selfish and power
hungry politicians who try to succeed in politics by dividing the
communities and by making them shed each others blood. The BJP has shot
itself in the foot by not taking effective action against the fascist
Chief Minister of Gujarat, Narendra Modi. This is the true verdict of the
people” Mr Zeena added.
Addressing a public
gathering in north London, Mr M Afzal*, General Secretary of All India
Congress Committee said, “This is the defeat of BJP’s sectarian
terrorism. Mutual tolerance and mutual respect is so deeply imbedded in
Indian culture that despite temporarily falling pray to evil forces they
soon come out of their spell and reject these forces in the same
spectacular manner in which they have acted today. The credit of this
success goes to the hard work and mature politics of Mrs Sonia Gandhi.”
