AIMMM Condemns Dehumanizing Treatment of Prisoners in Iraq

Calls for Dismissal of US Defence Secretary and International Action to Close the Chapter of Shame

New Delhi, 11 May, 2004
: Shri Syed Shahabuddin, President of the All India Muslim Majlis-e-Mushawarat (AIMMM), has issued the following Statement:

"The AIMMM strongly condemns the persistent violation of the human dignity and the deliberate terrorization and humiliation of the Iraqi prisoners detained at Abu Gharaib by the US Army personnel.

The US military occupation of Iraq itself constitutes a massive violation the human rights of the Iraqi people. The USA has waged an unlawful war against them under false pretexts and committed inhuman atrocities and acts of massive reprisals against any resistance.

The occupation regime has been adopting inhuman and degrading measures to break down the spirit of the Iraqi people. These have shocked the conscience of mankind and form a blot of shame on the face of the West and have projected the USA as a terrorist State.

The AIMMM demands that to retrieve the image of the USA, the US Congress ask the President of the USA to dismiss the US Defence Secretary and his Deputy for gross violation of the Geneva Convention on treatment of prisoners of war and seek to impeach the President himself, if he does not act.

The AIMMM appeals to the UNGA to take note of the deplorable situation in Iraq and recommend suitable measures to the Security Council to bring to this chapter of shame to a close."
