AIMMM Condemns Continued US Occupation in Iraq

Demands Withdrawal and Election for National Assembly to Run Government and to Frame Constitution

Calls upon Indian Government to Mobilize World Opinion

New Delhi, 3 May, 2004
: Shri Syed Shahabuddin, President of the All India Muslim Majlis-e-Mushawarat (AIMMM), has issued the following Statement:

"The AIMMM strongly condemns the continuing war being waged by the USA against the people of Iraq and the rampant atrocities including violation of human rights and desecration of the Holy Places.

The AIMMM feels horrified by the reports of brutal killing and torture of civilians and destruction of infrastructure and exploitation of economic resources.

The AIMMM upholds the right of the Iraqi people to Freedom and a Government of their choice.

The AIMMM, therefore, demands that the USA and its allies quit Iraq forthwith and hand over to the UNO the responsibility of restoring law and order as well as nursing Iraq back to political, economic and social health and the mandate to hold elections based on adult franchise by the end of the year for the formation of a National Assembly which should draft its Constitution as well as form a National Government which should represent all its regions and peoples.

The AIMMM appeals to the Government of India to take immediate steps to save the people of Iraq from death and destruction and mobilize the Non-aligned Movement for withdrawal of US forces and transfer of power to the UN in trust for the people of Iraq.

The AIMMM appeals to the freedom loving people all over the world to hold demonstrations to demand withdrawal of US occupation and intervention by the UNO."
