BABARI MASJID MOVEMENT COORDINATION COMMITTEE

Govt. has Not Held Any Negotiation with Muslims
No Credible Muslim Interlocutors Exist
No Elected Govt. Can Defy or Ignore Judicial Verdict
Advani Only Trying to Boost Morale of Disillusioned Camp-followers with False Promises

New Delhi, 8 April, 2004
: Shri Syed Shahabuddin, Convener, Babari Masjid Movement Coordination Committee (BMMCC), has issued the following Statement :

"Shri L.K. Advani has converted the second phase of his Bharat Uday Yatra into the second Ram Janambhoomi Yatra. In Lucknow and Ayodhya, he harped on his old themes.

Shri Advani has spoken of on-going negotiations between the two communities and promised to produce results within a few days after restoration to power. In fact there have never been any negotiations by the Government with any Muslim representative body of national eminence, simply because the Government has failed to make any proposal or suggest any formula to break the stalemate which could serve as the basis for negotiations.

By negotiation, Advani means unilateral and unconditional surrender of their rights by the Muslims. But despite its strenuous efforts, his Government has not been able to line up any Muslim notables to sign a Surrendernama on the dotted line.

Like Shri Vajpayee in the past, Shri Advani has refused to reveal the names of the Muslim interlocutors. Perhaps no credible interlocutors exist.

What is more mystifying is Shri Advani’s rejection of the judicial solution, when it is accepted in the Vision Document released by the BJP. The judicial process is fast reaching its culmination, to be followed by the implementation of the road map prepared by the Supreme Court in October, 1994. Can an elected Government, bound by oath of office to defend the Constitution, throw the judicial verdict out of the window and refuse to honour it?

The Babari Masjid Movement Coordination Committee (BMMCC), therefore, concludes that Shri Advani should not be taken seriously when he is trying to throw dust in the eyes of the people and to raise the morale of his disillusioned camp-followers at the BJP’s failure to move forward by an inch after 5 years in power.

The BMMCC once again calls up the Union Government to respect the dignity of the Judiciary and make an unambiguous commitment to maintain the status quo, honour the final judicial verdict on the question of title to the Babari Masjid site and implement the Supreme Court Order of October, 1994."
