In the States/UTís slated to go to polls on 20 April, 2004, with the exception of a few Seats, the political formations pitted against each other are the Indian National Congress and its allies, on one hand, and the BJP and its allies, on the other.

The AIMMM advises the electorate to vote for the INC or its allies in all Constituencies in which there is a direct contest between the INC or INC-supported candidate and the BJP or BJP-supported candidate so as to defeat the anti-secular forces.

The AIMMM advises the voters to exercise their right to vote, and vote unitedly, rising above religious, linguistic, racial, ethnic, cultural or tribal affinities and overcoming every obstacle meant to divide their vote."
