Appeal to Muslims for Enrollment as Voters

New Delhi, 17 January, 2004
: Shri Syed Shahabuddin, President of the All India Muslim Majlis-e-Mushawarat (AIMMM), has issued the following Statement:

"The General Election, 2004 is round the corner. The Election Commission shall urgently undertake the revision of the electoral rolls with 1 January, 2004 as the date of reference. The names of those who have become 18 on 1.1.2004 are eligible for inclusion. The names of those who have been inadvertently left out or those who have migrated from elsewhere in the country have to be included. Also the names of those who have passed away have to be deleted.
Voting is a civic responsibility but voting for the proper party and candidate is a national, religious and moral duty.
Your vote
Protects your human, constitutional and legal rights
Defends the secular democratic order which is under siege
Helps formulation of foreign and domestic policies based on justice
Directs the tax you pay into proper channels
Promotes struggle against injustice, discrimination and violence

No one can vote without prior registration and obtaining the voters card.

The AIMMM appeals to all Muslim citizens, above the age of 18, men and women, to register themselves as voters and to all others to check their names in the draft electoral rolls and, if they are missing, to have themselves enrolled.

This is a national duty as well as a contribution to the welfare of the community.
