INDIAN MUSLIM COUNCIL-USA
Condemns Delhi Blasts
New York, 29 October, 2005: Indian Muslim Council - USA, an advocacy group dedicated to promoting pluralism in India and the US, strongly condemned the killing of innocent civilians in Delhi, India. Rasheed Ahmed, IMC-USA's acting President, denounced the terrorists behind the bombings saying, "Such heinous acts of violence can never be justified by any cause. We extend our sincerest condolences to the families of the men, women and children who were killed. These innocent civilians were out shopping for the Hindu festival of Diwali and the Muslim festival of Eid-ul-Fitr (Ramadan) and now, instead of celebrating their religious holidays, the families will be mourning their irreparable losses."
According to initial news reports, on the evening of October 29, 2005, three bombs exploded in two markets and near a bus in Delhi, killing 50 people and injuring over 70 others, including some foreigners.
Ahmed urged the government of India to conduct a transparent and thorough investigation and take every possible measure to bring the perpetrators to justice. Ahmed also stated that IMC-USA is asking the government of India to provide prompt and adequate compensation to the victims and their families.
