Communal violence in Mau, attempt to augment political fortunes
16 October, 2005: All India Muslim Forum has expressed serious concern over the outburst of communal conflagration in Mau, U.P. and has urged the government to contain the violence with strict measures. In a statement, the President of Muslim Forum, Dr. M.K. Sherwani said that at this crucial time when Civic Bodies' elections are scheduled towards the end of November, it is apprehended that the four major political players - SP, BSP,Congress and BJP, may all be attempting to augment their political fortunes through vitiating communal atmosphere in the
state. SP and BSP are likely to indulge in this nefarious game-plan to retain their respective stronghold over Muslim vote, the Congress may be exploiting the situation to win over Muslims to its fold, while the BJP's desperate hopes will lie in playing once again its almost defunct hardcore
Hindutva card. In this dirty politics, each will be blaming the other, but they may be having the tacit understanding to benefit from the communally volatile situation according to their respective calculated moves.
Under these circumstances, the Muslim Forum President has appealed to the moral majority to exercise the utmost sense of circumspection and restrain. He has further urged the police and para-military forces to scrupulously discharge their duties in controlling the communal flare-ups, without caring for the mean interests of their political masters.
