Shariath Protection Council condemns PIL
Chennai, 19 August, 2005: The Shariath Protection Council condemns the P.I.L. filed in the
Apex Court against the establishment of Shariath Courts as politically motivated and unwanted, unwarranted and undesirable transgression upon Muslims' fundamental Constitutional Right of Religion. "Shaiath Courts" are not courts as defined by the Constitution. They are merely arbitration fora without judicial and executive powers. There is no law which forbids welfare organisations from arbitrating and solving civil disputes. The Shariath Protection Council is taking appropriate steps to implead itself in the case and see that the petition is dismissed.
