All India Muslim Forum on Nanawati Commission Report
10 August, 2005:
All India Muslim Forum strongly condemns the refusal by the Congress-led UPA government to prosecute the persons who have been held responsible for anti-Sikh carnage of 1984, in the wake of the assassination of Mrs.
Indira Gandhi. It is the greatest democratic fraud and the most reprehensible slur on the very concept of rule of law that the Commissions of Inquiries are set up, huge expenses are incurred on their proceedings, and decades are consumed in submitting the reports, but even thereafter the anguished families of the victims are exposed to the most atrocious mockery when the findings are not implemented on one pretext or the other.
It is not the first time that such a legal barbarity is being committed. The similar has been the fate of Gyan Prakash Committee Report on the brutal Maliana and Hashimpura killings of Muslim youths by PAC, and the Sri Krishna Commission Findings about the Bombay Muslim pogrom in the aftermath of the demolition of Babri Mosque. The similar is going to be the outcome of the much-talked of Liberhem Commission, probing into the circumstances leading to the horrible tragedy of December, 6, 1992 at Ayodhya. The communal horrors of
Gujarat and all that happened thereafter is before us to witness. If the perpetrators of such massacres and genocides are let scot-free in such a brazen manner, even after being found guilty, what faith in the democratic polity and rule of law is expected from the victims' families , what justification remains for us to call our system as the largest mature democracy in the world, and with what parameters, a political analyst may distinguish our political permutations from a most hideous and frightening autocratic dispensation.
However, the example of the BJP in castigating the UPA government for showing cavalier attitude towards the Nanawati Commission Report is like " THE POT CALLING THE KETTLE BLACK".
All India Muslim Forum calls upon the all the allies of the UPA government to exert pressure for the immediate implementation and prosecution of those implicated in the findings, irrespective of their status, failing which it becomes their (Allies') historic responsibility to withdraw their support, otherwise the moral majority will remember them with the fascist forces like
BJP.
