AFMI Mourns the Death of Dr.Rafiq Zakaria
Michigan, July 9, 2005: The American Federation of Muslims of Indian Origin (AFMI) expresses its deep sorrow at the death of noted
educationist, author and former parliamentarian Dr. Rafiq Zakaria.
"We express our heartfelt condolences to the Zakaria family. May Allah grant him maghfirah," said Dr.Syed Samee, president of AFMI.
"Dr. Rafiq Zakaria was a selfless leader who did his utmost to lift the Indian Muslim community from its educational backwardness by building colleges and schools in Maharashtra. He was a true visionary who aware of the issues concerning the Muslim community and Indian society at large. He was instrumental in promoting brotherhood among the various communities of India through his prolific books and articles. "
"AFMI sincerely hopes that the Maulana Azad Educational Trust, founded by
Dr. Zakaria, will continue to follow in the foot steps of its illustrious founder in imparting quality education to the sons and daughters of the community," he added.
