AFMI condemns assault on Ayodhya
Michigan, July 6, 2005: The American Federation of Muslims of Indian Origin (AFMI) strongly condemns Tuesday's violent attack by unidentified gunmen on the protected complex at the Babari Masjid site where a make shift temple was earlier erected after desecration and demolition of the mosque in December 1992.
“We denounce this dastardly and insane act of violence and urge the Indian government to take the strongest possible action against its perpetrators, whomsoever they maybe,” said Dr Syed Samee, President of AFMI.
The attack coming in the wake of the continuing inner struggle among right-wing Hindutva circles is alarming as it might trigger large-scale violence.
AFMI calls on the extremist groups to put an immediate stop to all acts, including inflammatory rhetoric, aimed at creating sectarian violence in India.
AFMI appreciates the swift action of Prime Minister Shri Manmohan Singh in strongly condemning this terrorist act and in containing its fallout. AFMI urges the people of India to help him maintain peace and amity and not fall prey to communal forces.
