AIM Mourns Ebrahim Sulaiman Sait
Washington DC. , 1 May, 2005: The Association of Indian Muslims of America (AIM), Washington DC, held a condolence meeting on Sunday, May 1, to mourn the passing away of Mr Ebrahim Sulaiman Sait, senior leader of Muslims in India. AIM President Kaleem Kawaja told the audience in the meeting that Mr Sait was one of the tallest leades of Indian Muslims since India became an independent, soverign nation in 1947. Representing the Indian Muslim League in the parliament from Kerala, Mr Sait dedicated his entire life fighting to get justice and dignity for the Muslims of India.
Kaleem Kawaja also said that Mr Sait had visited Washington DC twice in the mid 1990s at the invitation of AIM and had addressed public meetings of the Indian Muslim community. In the early 1990s he worked hard to save Babri mosque from demolition, and later did his best in the parliament to ensure that the site of the mosque is restored to the Muslim community. When horrible anti-Muslim violence occurred in Gujarat in 2002, despite bad health, Mr Sait again worked hard to get relief assistance to the victims.
The meeting attendees offered a brief dua (prayer) for the departed soul, and extended its condolences to Mr Sait's family.
