COUNCIL of INDIAN MUSLIMS (UK)
/ PRESS RELEASE
CIM Deplores the Sacrilege of Hindu Temple in Pakistan
London, 10 October, 2006: Condemning the encroachment of the premises of a Hindu temple and its adjoining buildings in Karachi and its conversion into a place for animal slaughter as “shameful and outrageous”, Council of Indian Muslims — CIM (UK) has urged the Pakistani Government to “take stern action against the culprits and hand over the place to its rightful owners”.
In a statement issued today, CIM’s Chairman Munaf Zeena said, “This is a blatant sacrilege and highly deplorable violation of religious rights of Hindus in Pakistan. One is embarrassed even to think that the Government of a country claiming to be “Islamic Republic” has not yet taken any action against these perpetrators and their alleged police accomplices. One equally finds abhorring the silence of the “Mujahideen” of the MMA and other religious organisations at such a crime perpetrated against a religious minority. Protection of the lives and honour of minorities and their religious places is the duty of Government of Pakistan. Let the Pakistanis not forget the warning of Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) in which he said, “If anyone harasses non-Muslims, on the day of judgement I will plead for these non-Muslims before Allah". Mr Zeena said "It is extremely shameful that the Pakistani Government and its clergies have failed in educating the Muslims in Pakistan of their Islamic duties towards non-Muslim citizens.
“Muslim countries must set a better example in their treatment of minorities." Zeena added. “If the Muslims in Muslim countries treat their non-Muslim fellow citizens like this then we see no difference between them and the Sangh Parivar and will be ashamed of calling such people as our brethren in faith".
"Muslim rule in India spans 1000 years and if Muslims had adopted such bigoted approach not a single temple would have survived in the Indian sub-continent when in those days there was no UN to check their actions and no international media to report their misdeeds."
