Pope's Remarks: Government should Convey feelings of Indian People to Vatican
PRESS STATEMENT
Muslims Shocked and Hurt by Pope's Remarks on Islam & the Prophet.
AIMMM Objects to Repetition of Byzantine War propaganda.
Requests Government to Convey feelings of Indian People to Vatican.
New Delhi, 14 September, 2006: The All India Muslim Majlis-e-Mushawarat is shocked and hurt by the remarks of H.H the Pope against Islam and the Holy Prophet. The remarks are likely to promote Islamophobia and encourage vilification of Islam and demonisation of the Holy Prophet & adversely affect inter-faith understanding.
The AIMMM deems it improper that the Pope should repeat the war propaganda of a Byzantine ruler, involved in the Crusades and under attack by Muslim powers of the time which was meant to raise the morale of his besieged people.
The Vatican has enormous intellectual resources at its disposal to identity what is irrational or evil or inhuman in Islamic teachings, and to check the veracity of the canard about the Holy
Prophet's command to spread Islam by the sword.
The AIMMM requests the Government to convey the feelings of the Muslim community and of the other secular people of India to the authorities of the Vatican.
