Women's Personal Law Board On Muslim Women's Reservation
Ms. Parveen Abdi, Founder Secretary General of All India Muslim Women's Personal Law Board has endorsed the demand of All India Ulema Council for adequate reservation in jobs and services for Muslims. However, she has demanded preferential protection in jobs, services and vocations for Muslim women at the same time. No doubt, economic condition of Muslims and their representation in main stream spheres has been on a perennial down slide during the last fifty years. However, in such a scenario Muslim women end up doubly disadvantaged. Firstly, being Muslims and being women too. No reservation for any segment of society can ever bear the desired fruits unless it is equalized with gender justice and equality. If the better half of population remains shackled with unreasonable restrictions and gender biased strictures how can the notion of equality and social justice be actualized wondered Parveen Abdi. The interim report of Justice Rajender Sachar committee confirms the ever-decreasing representation of Muslims in legislatures, police, bureaucracy, local bodies, judiciary, and vocation and in private sector. Discrimination on the basis of religion, perceived or genuine is a matter of investigation because the whole lot of twenty crore people can not be found wanting on merit and worthiness. Shrinkage of Muslim representation is glaring in our elected bodies where upon every election in country the number of Muslims MPs and MLAs is continuously on decline. Perhaps, the delimitation of electoral constituencies has some role to play where Muslim dominated constituencies have either been declared reserved for SC/ST or carved in such a manner so as to lose effectiveness of Muslim votes said Parveen Abdi.
The statement also expressed a sigh of relief over the elimination of dreaded terrorist Musab Zarqawi recently in Iraq. His barbaric acts and the creed of mindless killings got only the bad name to Islam which is already become a punching bag for whatever reasons added Parveen
