AIMMM deplores killings in Jammu, Afghanistan and Vadodra
PRESS STATEMENT
New Delhi,
2 May,
2006:
Dr Zafarul-Islam Khan, General Secretary of the All India Muslim Majlis-e-Mushawarat (AIMMM), has issued the following Statement:
"The All India Muslim Majlis-e-Mushawarat (AIMMM) expresses its deep concern at the brutal killing of 34 Hindus in two separate terrorist attacks over the last two days in Udhampur and Doda districts of Jammu & Kashmir. The AIMMM deplores the the targetting of innocent people on the basis of creed or caste. It also cautions against the selective state policy of using the minority community in Jammu and Kashmir as part of what is known as "Village Defence Committees" which causes friction among communities and exposes innocents to attacks by the terrorists. The state should try to include all communities in its fight against terror and secessionism.
"The AIMMM also deplores the senseless killing by of an innocent Indian engineer who was helping in the development of their country. At the same time AIMMM cautions against our overzealous support to the Kabul regime put up by foreign occupation forces. We should support all democratic and friendly forces in Aghanistan while pushing for a grand national reconciliation in order to rid that unfortunate country of foreign occupation.
"The AIMMM also deplores the one-sided police action against the Muslim community in Vadodra which was rightly agitating against the arbitrary and sudden removal of a 300-year old
mazar in the city. According to reports, the police in Vadodra shot to kill while other options were available to disperse the angry crowd. The AIMMM also deplores the Vadodra city authorities' high-handedness in bulldozing the historic place while the
mazar could have been peacefully relocated in consultation with the city's Muslim community. The AIMMM demands action against both the
Vadodara administration and police for their obvious failures which vitiated the communal atmosphere and led to the loss of at least four innocent lives.
"The AIMMM also appeals to the Muslim community not to allow itself to react to the
atmosphere of hate which BJP leaders' fake rath yatra is creating all over the country. We should keep our calm and should not allow the enemies of communal harmony to succeed in their nefarious
designs."
