COUNCIL of INDIAN MUSLIMS (UK)
/ PRESS RELEASE
British Indian Muslims Express Concern at Aligarh Riots
London, 9 April, 2006: Council of Indian Muslims — UK (CIM) has expressed deep sorrow at the cold blooded murder of six Muslim youths by the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) in the north Indian city of Aligarh.
“Time and again concern has been expressed by the Muslim community at the anti-Muslim bias of the PAC but unfortunately 55 years after its formation the nature of this anti-Muslim force has not changed and nothing has been done by any government to sanitise it of its anti-Muslim mentality.” CIM’s Chairman Munaf Zeena said in a statement here today.
“We appreciate the quick action by the state government against the district officials for their irresponsible behaviour but their transfer from one district to another is not enough. We urge the state government to launch an inquiry into this tragedy and relieve those blood thirsty officials who allowed the notorious PAC to go berserk killing and injuring Muslim youths.” Zeena added.
Zeena also said that central and state governments must take immediate measures to reform the PAC. He demanded that Rs.10 lakhs be paid to the families of those killed, Rs.5 lakhs to each seriously injured and Rs.2.5 lakhs to those who have suffered ordinary injury.
